SAP FI field guide: T-codes, tables and fields for P2P and R2R
A desk reference for the SAP FI transactions, tables and fields that finance teams and auditors use every month, in ECC and S/4HANA.
Updated · 8 min read
In simple words
A T-code (transaction code) opens a screen in SAP, for example FB50 to post a G/L journal. A table is where SAP stores the data, for example BKPF for document headers. A field is one column of a table, for example BUDAT, the posting date.
You need T-codes to do the work. You need tables and fields when you write a data request, read an audit query or build a Power Query model.
Names differ slightly between SAP ECC and S/4HANA. Where it matters, both are shown. Your company may also block some T-codes or use custom ones (starting with Z or Y).

Audit and review tips
Manual journals: BKPF with BLART = SA (or your manual types) and TCODE in FB50, FB01, F-02. Check USNAM against the approver.
Back-dated postings: compare CPUDT (entered) with BUDAT (posted). Large gaps after period close need explaining.
Duplicate invoices: look for the same vendor, XBLNR and amount across different BELNR. The duplicate analyzer can do this on an export.
GR/IR: old uncleared items on the GR/IR clearing account usually mean an invoice or a receipt is missing.
Vendor master changes: change documents for vendor bank details are a classic fraud risk. Ask for a change log report and check maker-checker.
